This work of art is dedicated to the thousands of men from former French occidental territories who came to fight the toubabs – the whites.
This sculpture, entitled "Constellation de la Douleur" (the Constellation of Suffering) was commissioned by the Conseil Général of Aisne as part of the 90th Anniversary commemorating the battles of the Chemin des Dames.
The artist writes: "The Tribute to the Senegalese Infantrymen represents a tribe of guardians, immutable and impassive. They blend in so well that it feels as though they have always been there, part of the landscape and the history of the place."
